⚡ BESCOM Bill Calculations 2026

From May 1, 2026, effective rates: LT-1 Residential ₹6.82/unit (₹5.90 base + ₹0.36 Apr 2025 surcharge + ₹0.56 May 2026 true-up). LT-2 Educational ₹8.17/unit. LT-3 Commercial ₹8.92/unit. Fixed charges: LT-1 ₹120/kW, LT-2 ₹180/kW, LT-3 ₹210/kW (up to 50kW). Rural rebate of 30 paise/unit continues.
From May 1, 2026, BESCOM consumers pay an additional 56 paise per unit as FY25 True-Up Charges approved by KERC. This recovers a ₹2,068 crore revenue deficit incurred in FY 2024-25. The charge is recovered in 12 equal monthly instalments from May 2026 to April 2027 and appears as a separate 'FY25 True Up Charges' line on your bill.
Fixed charges are based on sanctioned load: LT-1: ₹120/kW (up to 50kW), ₹210/kW (above 50kW). LT-2: ₹180/kW (up to 50kW), ₹250/kW (above 50kW). LT-3: ₹210/kW (up to 50kW), ₹300/kW (above 50kW). These remain unchanged in 2026.
FY25 True-Up Charges are 56 paise per unit levied on BESCOM consumers from May 2026 to April 2027. KERC approved this to recover BESCOM's ₹2,068 crore shortfall from FY 2024-25. The amount is calculated on each consumer's actual FY24-25 consumption and spread over 12 monthly instalments.
Sanctioned load is printed on your BESCOM bill under "Sanctioned Load" or "Connected Load" in kW or HP. For conversion: 1 HP = 0.746 kW. It determines your fixed charge component every month regardless of consumption.
FAC (Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment) charges recover fuel price variations and are revised quarterly by KERC. They appear as a variable per-unit charge on top of base tariff and surcharges. Our calculator estimates are based on base tariff; actual FAC may add to your bill.

💚 Gruha Jyothi Scheme 2026

For Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries, the Karnataka government bears the 56 paise true-up charge for eligible free units. If you consume more than your eligible free units in any month, you pay the full bill including the hike for that month.
Gruha Jyothi provides up to 200 units free electricity monthly based on your previous year's average consumption. If your average is below 200 units, you get free electricity up to that average. Exceeding 200 units in any month means you pay the full bill for that month at current rates.
Karnataka residents with domestic LT-1 connections, Aadhaar linked to the electricity account, and one benefit per household. Over 1.72 crore families are registered. Apply through Seva Sindhu portal at sevasindhu.karnataka.gov.in.
If monthly consumption exceeds 200 units, you pay the entire bill for that month at full 2026 rates. Only months with consumption at or below your eligible average benefit from the free electricity scheme.
For new connections without previous year data, the government provides approximately 58-59 units free initially. After one year of consumption data, your actual average is calculated and used for subsequent benefit calculations.

📊 Connection Types & Rates

LT-1: Domestic/residential (lowest rates, ₹6.82/unit in 2026). LT-2: Private educational institutions (medium rates, ₹8.17/unit in 2026). LT-3: Commercial/business (highest rates, ₹8.92/unit in 2026). Each has different fixed charges as well.
Rural areas under Village Panchayats get 30 paise per unit rebate on energy charges. This applies to all connection types. For LT-1 in 2026, rural consumers effectively pay ₹6.52/unit vs ₹6.82/unit in urban areas.
Yes, by applying to BESCOM with required documents and paying applicable conversion charges. Commercial rates apply from the conversion date. Using a domestic connection for commercial purposes can attract retroactive penalties.
Yes, the 56 paise per unit true-up charge applies to commercial (LT-3) and educational (LT-2) connections as well. For commercial consumers on the Discounted Energy Rate Scheme, the tariff revision applies only to base consumption.

💡 Energy Savings & Tips

With 2026 rates higher than ever: switch to LED bulbs (80% energy saving), set AC to 24°C (6% saving per degree), use inverter-based appliances, unplug standby devices, use natural light, and consider solar rooftop installation which can offset the tariff hike long-term.
Yes, Karnataka has net metering policy allowing you to sell excess solar power back to BESCOM. With the 2026 tariff hike, solar rooftop systems offer even better payback periods. State and central subsidies are available for residential solar installations.
Average Karnataka household consumes 150-300 units monthly. 1-2 people: 100-150 units. 3-4 people: 200-300 units. 5+ people: 350+ units. At 2026 LT-1 rates, a 200-unit bill costs approximately ₹1,364 energy charges plus fixed charges (before Gruha Jyothi).
At 56 paise per unit, the May 2026 true-up adds: ₹56 extra for 100 units/month, ₹112 for 200 units/month, ₹168 for 300 units/month, ₹224 for 400 units/month. Gruha Jyothi enrolled consumers are protected for eligible free units.
Pay through BESCOM website (bescom.karnataka.gov.in), BESCOM mobile app, or UPI apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay. Use your 11-digit consumer number. Online payment is instant and you receive a digital receipt.

📱 Bill Management & Complaints

Bills from May 2026 include FY25 True-Up Charges of 56 paise per unit. This appears as a separate line item. The amount is calculated on your FY 2024-25 consumption divided into 12 monthly instalments, so the extra amount varies by consumer.
Late payment attracts penalty charges and interest. Continued non-payment can lead to disconnection. Pay within the due date shown on your bill to avoid surcharges. BESCOM offers reconnection upon payment of dues plus reconnection fee.
Contact BESCOM at 1912 (toll-free), through the BESCOM website or mobile app, or visit your nearest BESCOM office. For billing disputes, carry your bill copy and consumer number. BESCOM must respond within defined timelines under KERC regulations.
Yes, BESCOM website and mobile app provide consumption history for registered consumers. Smart meter consumers get detailed usage patterns. This data helps identify high-consumption periods and plan energy-saving measures.
Karnataka has five ESCOMs: BESCOM (Bengaluru), CESC Mysuru (Mysuru region, +15 paise hike from May 2026), MESCOM (Mangaluru, 9 paise refund), HESCOM (Hubballi, 10 paise refund), and GESCOM (Kalaburagi, 10 paise refund). All follow KERC-approved tariffs.

🔧 Calculator Usage

Our calculator uses current KERC approved rates including the May 2026 56 paise true-up surcharge and April 2025 surcharge. Accuracy is high for estimation. Actual bills may vary due to FAC charges (revised quarterly), meter rent, electricity duty, and specific consumer adjustments.
The calculator includes major components: fixed charges, energy charges (base + Apr 2025 surcharge + May 2026 true-up), rural rebates, and Gruha Jyothi benefits. FAC (varies monthly), electricity duty (6% on energy), and meter rent (₹25-60/month) are not included — note these will increase your actual bill.
Differences arise from: quarterly varying FAC charges, 6% electricity duty on energy charges, meter rent, pending dues adjustments, exact billing period (not always 30 days), and specific Gruha Jyothi benefit calculations based on your prior year average.
We update rates when KERC announces changes. Current version reflects May 2026 updates including the 56 paise FY25 true-up charge and the prior April 2025 36 paise surcharge. Always check BESCOM/KERC official sources for latest notifications.
Yes, use the Bill Comparison tab. The calculator shows breakdowns with current 2026 rates. You can manually compare by noting that the 2026 hike adds 56 paise per unit to all categories — for 200 units monthly that is ₹112 extra per month, or ₹1,344 per year.
